Official spokesperson Mr. Mabrouk Azeez says speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed would be tested for Covid-19.

Addressing the media earlier tonight, Mr. Mabrouk said looking UK's situation all Maldivians who travelled back from UK after the 14th of this month will now be tested for the virus even if the individual does not show signs of the illness.

Asked if President Nasheed would also be tested, Mr. Mabrouk said no exemptions would be made and that all who travelled back from the UK after the 14th would be tested.

Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed returned back to the country from the UK on the 15th of this month. He took part in the Parliament session held on the 16th of March.

Former President Nasheed made the trip to UK to celebrate his marriage anniversary with his wife Laila.

Decision to screen Maldivians who came back from the UK was taken after three Maldivians who came back from the country tested positive for Covid-19.
