Official Spokesman on Covid-19 updates in Maldives Mr. Mabrouk Azeez says the government does not believe the reports that say a Maldivian was tested positive for Covid-19 in United Arab Emirates UAE.

Earlier this month UAE media reported a Maldivian was among 50 individuals who tested positive for the highly contagious virus.

Addressing the media at the twice daily press briefing today, Mr. Mabrouk said based on the official reports so far received, the government does not believe the said individual is a Maldivian national. Mabrouk said the name given by UAE is an eastern European based name and that the person could belong to a nation that has a name similar to Maldives like Moldova.

He added that the name sent was not registered here in the Maldives.

Although 16 people have tested positive for the virus in Maldives, only one Maldivian national have been tested positive for the virus. HPA confirmed that the individual is being treated at Velidhoo Isolation facility and that the person is generally feeling well.
