President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says it will take more than six months to restore the economy after the fight against global pandemic Covid-19.
Addressing the press today, President Solih said the government’s top priority is to ensure all the Covid-19 patients in the country are all cured by the end of the month and after that Maldives will slowly get back on its feet.
The President said although the situation in Maldives remains controlled, most countries are battling hard with the viral outbreak and government forecasts show that the economy will recover in the fourth quarter of this month or first quarter of next year.
He emphasized that this was not a financial crisis and government has full confidence that the economy will recover.
With more that 50 resorts already closed for the next three months the fight against Covid-19 is set to take a massive toll on the tourism and aviation industry.
