Sri Lanka government has temporarily lifted the curfew order placed to curtail spread of highly contagious Covid-19 with locks and foreigners thronging to grocery stores for much needed stock-up of food and necessities.

Although the Sri Lanka government allowed queues outside of the stores, it ordered each person in the queue to maintain a distance of less than 1 m between each other to prevent spread of Covid-19.

Speaking to The Press a Maldivian family living in Sri Lanka said, with long queues formed outside of general stores in the island nation, name board of the one such store only became visible after staying in line for four hours.

The family said by the time it reached the front of the line the whole store was emptied out and that they have to wait for next Friday for a chance to stock up on food and other goods.

Sri Lanka authorities said the curfew order was lifted for 8 hours and only one person from each household would be allowed to go out to by all necessary goods and food.

Sri Lanka has reported 97 positive cases of Covid-19 with two patients cured of the viral outbreak. Sri Lankan authorities are imposing strict regulations to quell a mass out break in the country.
