Dr. Mohamed Ismail says the fact that most samples tested for Covid-19 in Maldives resulted negative do not mean the risk of a major outbreak has been reduced.

Speaking to reporters earlier today, Dr. Mohamed said although five of the thirteen patients tested positive for Covid-19 have no been declared free of the virus, this does not guarantee that the danger of a massive spread has been averted.

Dr. Mohamed said people should not stop isolating themselves at homes and should maintain social distancing habits as people are still arriving from abroad and covid-19 patients are still being treated in the country.

Confirming that an additional two patients have no been declared cured of the virus, Dr. Mohamed said both the patients have now been discharged from the hospital. He added that only 8 patients remain under treatment for the global pandemic in the country.

This news comes as government implemented extraordinary measures to quell a major outbreak of the Covid-19 virus that has claimed more than 15 thousand deaths worldwide.
