The Maldives government on Wednesday, 18 March 2020, announced authorities will be quarantining arrivals to the island nation without any exclusions.

The decision was approached in a bid to maximize safety and reduce further cases of the COVID-19 pandemic that has been rapidly spreading across the globe.

State's decision was officially announced by President's Office Under Secretary and the designated spokesperson on COVID-19 developments in Maldives, Mr Mabrouk Abdul Azeez.

According to Mr Azeez, all individuals arriving in Maldives will be subjected to quarantine regardless of their country of origin or flight route.

The Maldives government has bolstered its efforts to counter the viral pandemic in light of 13 positive cases reported from the island nation, though all reported cases were discovered from foreigners; state remains vigilant to reduce the number of future cases.

On Wednesday, Maldives government announced the unanimous decision by state executive, inclusive of the cabinet, and legislature to reduce salaries on public officials by 20%.

The decision was approach in a bid to reduce state expenses amid severe economic dents made on the island nation.
