On Wednesday it was confirmed the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maldives have risen from six to eight.
While eight confirmed cases have been reported from Maldives, all COVID-19 positive cases were reported from a total of 03 tourist resorts in Maldives.
The resorts of incidence include Kuredu Island Resort, Sandies Bathala Resort and Kuramathi Island Resort.
Kuredu Island Resort has registered a total of 04 cases while 02 cases each were reported from both Kuramathi Island Resort and Sandies Bathala.
The first positive cases were confirmed from Kuredu on Saturday, previous week while two more cases were reported on the eve of Sunday from Sandies Bathala.
Two more cases from Kuredu were reported on last Monday, while on Wednesday, 11 March 2020 two cases from Kuramathi were confirmed.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives confirms all reported and confirm cases were found from expatriates and tourists with no positive cases confirmed from any locals.
However, a total of 26 individuals suspected with the presence of the virus; both locals and foreigners included, have been sequestered off to isolated quarantining.
HPA reports the island nation currently is under a Yellow Alert status under the COVID-19 prevention guidlines while both Kuredu Island Resort and Sandies Bathala are under Orange Alerts.
The latest tourist resort to receive an Orange Alert status is Kuramathi Island Resort with the two positive cases.
Meanwhile Maldives have temporarily ceased arrivals and flights from China, Italy, Iran, Bangladesh and two regions from South Korea.
