The Maldives Police Service has commenced trial runs on utilizing body worn cameras (bodycam) in general operational conduct.
According to Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, officers working at the front lines are currently testing bodycams to integrate the gadgets into regular operations.
Hameed on his official Twitter handle posted "with plans for wider roll out, we have started a randomised trial of Body Worn Camera (BWC) with frontline officers."
"Evidence suggests BWC is an effective tool to improve police contact with people, reduce misconduct complaints and bolster public confidence in policing" the Commissioner of Police added.
Though the integration of bodycam focused on frontline officers is on a trial run, the Police Commissioner confirmed the authority will be officially rolling out the gadgets following feedback and assessment.
