Sri Lankan authorities have arrested several individuals in possession of illegal narcotics, including two Maldivians.

The Lankan local news media reported a total of seven individuals were apprehended by the country's authorities which included the two locals.

The suspects were apprehended with 40 million Lankan Rupees (equivalent to approximately MVR3 million) worth of illegal narcotic substances in their possession.

Reports also confirm the vehicle these suspects were driving have been impounded as well.

According to Sri Lankan authorities, the individuals were arrested during a special raid on Monday conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau.

All suspects of the case are expected to be summoned at Mount Lavinia Magistrate on Tuesday for remand hearing.
