A Ukranian national who went on snorkeling expedition on Monday has died from drowning.

The tourist went on the trip at the lagoon of Rihiveli Resort, Kaafu atoll.

Maldives Police Service confirmed the deceased has been identified as a 48 year old Ukranian male, and further noted they received the incident report around 11:39hrs on Monday morning.

The traveler was transferred to Guraidhoo, of the same atoll, for medical emergency. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the island's medical center.

It was reported the Guraidhoo medical center has confirmed the tourist drowned due to an epileptic seizure while snorkeling.

Local law enforcement authority was reportedly probing for all necessary information regarding the incident.

Incidents at the sea, especially diving and snorkeling excursions involving tourists have resulted in several deaths in recent months.
