The Maldives Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has met with imprisoned former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Maldives Correctional Service on Monday tweeted both Minister of Home Affairs and Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Muhammadhufulhu paid a visit to Maafushi penitentiary to assess the overall condition of the prison venue.

It was reported by the authority, both Minister Imran Abdulla flanked by Commissioner of Prisons had met with the imprisoned former of head of state to discuss on any concerns the ex-President may have.

Ex-President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was admitted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Wednesday, previous week and was discharged on Saturday.

He was transported to Maldives capital for a doctor's appointment and to conduct several medical examinations.

Meanwhile an appeal hearing of Criminal Court's sentence on Yameen Abdul Gayoom was tabled and heard at Maldives High Court on Monday.

On Monday's hearing the appellate court declined to review Criminal Court's sentence of a five year imprisonment for the offense of money laundering and release Yameen Abdul Gayoom on bail.
