The Maldives head of state on Monday, 03 February 2020, gave his presidential address at the island nation's parliament.
According to Maldives Constitution, the state executive or the President of the country must deliver a presidential address focusing on the pledges and work conducted, completed as well as commenced during the previous year.
In addition to this, the president is also expected to highlight or detail out the government's plans on various socio-economic sectors for the current year while mapping out prospective plans for the future.
In this regard President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday, while addressing the parliament, claimed the current administration aims to commence work on realizing their pledges - which has become the mandate of the ruling party's vision and mission as per Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).
Moreover, President Solih further asserted the government will vigorously attempt to slice the state debt with a better focus on budget management.
Maldives Parliament commenced officially for 2020 on Monday following the presidential address.
During Monday's address, President Solih had also highlighted on the state budger for the year stressing the amount was a record high for the island nation's state administration.
Furthermore, the Maldives head of state explained government's decision on hiking the state budget for the years 2020 and 2021 detailing the decision was arrived unanimously through the cabinet in the attempt of commencing major developmental projects of the country.
The decision was also a move to reduce the state debt holistically, as per President Solih.
