The Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday has appointed prominent local advocate Hussain Shameem as the new Prosecutor General.
In a special function held during Sunday afternoon at President's Office, Maldives head of state had officially appointed the prominent lawyer to the designation.
Shameem gets appointed as the new PG of Maldives under Article number 221 of Maldives Constitution and Article 03 of Prosecutor General's Act.
The new Prosecutor General was sworn to position by Supreme Court Justice Dr Azmiralda Zahir at Sunday's ceremony.
Hussain Shameem, who has been at the forefront of Maldivian judicial practice and movement had finished his Masters in Law and Criminal Justice at Sussex University, England.
In addition to this, he had also finished his Bachelors in Islamic Shari'ah at Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
Shameem has been appointed as new the PG following resignation Aishath Bisam who held the position most recently.
