Vice President of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and the Member of Parliament for Naifaru Constituency Ahmed Shiyam has said that he will not be coming to terms with a verdict passed by a Judge, in the money laundering trial against the former president Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayoom should he be under duress.

Speaking in a rally held by the supporters of Yameen, ahead of the final court hearing, MP Shiyam said he does not expect a sentence of imprisonment levied upon the earlier. He went on to add that the indictment of Yameen in the trial is invalid and the court proceedings are in violation of the Constitution of the Maldives.

MP Shiyam said he expected to see Yameen walk out of the court as a free and an innocent man, adding that the state has so far, till date, failed to provide any evidence that could convict Yameen of the accused crime.

In this regard, MP Shiyam that Maldivians are not ready to come terms with a verdict that gives a blow to their ex-president Yameen.

Yameen himself addressed the rally of his supporters, ahead of the session held to pass the final verdict and called on party-men to with hold the party spirit even in absence. Yameen went on to say that should it happen, an opportunity should not be given for a single member to leave the party.
