Deputy High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Shri Gaurav Gauba, participated in the Passing Out Parade of officers at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) in Addu City, reaffirming India’s continued support for strengthening the Maldives’ defence and policing capabilities.
The NCPLE is a state-of-the-art training facility constructed with grant assistance from the Government of India, and stands as a key symbol of the enduring India–Maldives partnership in capacity building, professional training, and institutional development. The event marked the successful completion of training by a new cohort of officers, who are expected to play a vital role in maintaining law and order and public safety across the country.
India’s support for the NCPLE forms part of its broader assistance to strengthen the Maldives’ security architecture, including defence, policing, and maritime security. Over the years, India has been a consistent partner in providing training opportunities, technical expertise, and infrastructure support to Maldivian security institutions, aimed at enhancing professionalism, operational readiness, and community-oriented policing.
The passing out parade also reflects the strong people-to-people and institutional ties between the two countries, particularly in the field of human resource development. Hundreds of Maldivian defence and police personnel have received training in India under various bilateral programmes, contributing to long-term capacity building in the Maldives.
India and the Maldives share close cooperation in defence and security, underpinned by regular high-level engagements, joint exercises, and training initiatives. This cooperation complements ongoing collaboration in areas such as disaster response, counter-terrorism, and maritime domain awareness, which are critical to the Maldives as a small island nation spread across a vast ocean territory.
Officials noted that India’s grant assistance for facilities like the NCPLE reflects a partnership driven by local priorities and mutual trust, reinforcing the Maldives’ ability to independently manage its internal security and law enforcement needs.
The event in Addu City once again highlighted the depth of the India–Maldives relationship, rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and a common commitment to regional peace, stability, and development.
