New Delhi, November 11 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed that those responsible for the deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort “will not be spared,” promising that investigative agencies will uncover the full conspiracy behind the attack.
Speaking in Bhutan’s capital Thimphu on Tuesday morning during his two-day official visit, the Prime Minister said he carried “a heavy heart” following Monday’s blast that killed nine people and injured more than 20.
“Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice,” PM Modi said.“The horrific incident that occurred in Delhi yesterday evening has saddened the entire nation. I understand the grief of the affected families. The whole country stands with them.”
The explosion occurred at around 6:52 PM on Monday when a white Hyundai i20 car blew up at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station. The blast, which tore through the vehicle and damaged several others, sent shockwaves across the city.
Confusion Over Car’s Ownership
Investigators are still piecing together the identity of the vehicle’s owner and driver. Siting some sources news out lets of India says that the car’s registration number traces back to Haryana, while news outlets like NDTV and others say it was linked to Dr. Umar Mohammad, a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, who is suspected to have been driving the vehicle when the explosion occurred.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the owner’s identity, and forensic experts are conducting DNA tests to verify whether Umar was among the deceased.
Possible Link to ‘White-Collar’ Terror Network
Security agencies are examining potential connections between the blast and an ongoing investigation into a “white-collar” terror module exposed earlier this week in Faridabad, Haryana.
NDTV reports that on Monday, Haryana Police discovered nearly 2,900 kilograms of explosives and inflammable materials — including ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulphur — in two rented rooms belonging to Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, a Kashmiri doctor.
Shakeel, along with Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rathe and six others, was arrested for alleged ties to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfits. Investigators now suspect that Dr. Umar Mohammad could have been linked to the same group.
Operation Sindoor ‘Still Active’
Government sources said that Operation Sindoor, India’s large-scale counterterror campaign launched in May after the Pahalgam terror attack, remains active.
“Any act of terror will be considered an act of war against India. Operation Sindoor is on,” a senior official said.
The operation, which began following an April 22 attack that killed 26 civilians, involved Indian strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), resulting in the deaths of over 100 militants.
Heightened Security in Delhi
Security has been tightened across the capital, with special checkpoints and forensic teams deployed around the Red Fort area. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell are jointly leading the probe, while intelligence agencies are analysing CCTV footage and mobile data for leads.
The Prime Minister’s Office remains in constant contact with Home Ministry officials overseeing the investigation.
“India will identify and punish every terrorist and those behind them. We will pursue them to the ends of the world — terrorism will not go unpunished,” Modi said in a previous statement after the Pahalgam attack — words that echo strongly again this week. (Source: NDTV)
