The Civil Court has ordered utility company Fenaka to pay MVR 6.8 million to a private company as its financial problems continue to mount.

A company named 'Veshi Link Investment' sued the utility company for unpaid fees for services provided back in 2022. The lawsuit said that Fenaka has failed to pay around MVR 8.5 million out of MVR 12 million for services rendered and goods provided for the company for its work in two islands in Laamu Atoll.

The company has filed a lawsuit against Fenaka seeking recovery of MVR 8.5 million and MVR 70,000 as attorney's fees.

Veshi Link Investment also asked the court to have Fenaka pay the amount within 7 days.

In this case, Fenaka said that it is paying the amount in installments. The company said the sudden payment within seven days without prior notice would disrupt the services provided by Fenaka.

In response, the plaintiff argued that there was no agreement between the two parties to pay the amount in installments at any time, and that the matter was brought before the court because there was no prospect of receiving this amount out of court.

It also argued that Fenaka was making the pending payments to different vendors and that it did not believe making such a payment would disrupt the company's services.

However, the Civil Court ruled that the money was due to the company. Fenaka was ordered to pay the money to the civil court within seven days.
