The Civil Court has ruled in favour of the First Lady Saajidha Mohamed in her defamation case against the MDP activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) over the comments made about President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Saajidha Mohamed's son, Umair Mohamed Muizzu.

The comments were made by Mandhy at an MDP rally held in March.

Speaking at an MDP protest, Mandhy accused the government of orchestrating a ban on vaping to stop the First Couple's son from vaping. Her accusations were summarily denied by the First Family.

The case was filed at the Civil Court and Family Court back in April.

The defendants did not respond to the allegations made by Saajidhaa within the time given by the Court. But they did submit their defence after the given time, which the First Lady's lawyers insisted should be overlooked, and that the sentence be given in their absence.

In the absentia judgment, the Civil Court held that Umar's right to protect his reputation had been violated and Sajida was entitled to sue for damages.

However, the Court refused to rule that MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and the party must take responsibility for the comments made by Mandhy and that the court cannot order Fayyaz to issue a public appology for the comments.
