Authorities in India's Cochin Airport have apprehended two Maldivians who attempted to smuggle large amounts of medicine out of the country.
According to Indian Customs Authorities and Indian media, a large quantity of medicine was discovered in the possession of two Maldivians, Mubah Saeed and Abdullah Naseem.
According to Indian newspapers, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs on Tuesday arrested the two men and searched their luggage and found five boxes of drugs worth between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
They also need permission to export such a large amount of drugs, but they did not have any documents or permits.
In a statement, Indian Customs authorities said that they were unclear why the Maldivians attempted to smuggle the medicine into the Maldives.
The statement also said that they were testing the medine to check whether they include any narcotics and were further investigating whether a larger drug trafficking network was behind the attemtp to smuggle the medicine.
