President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says his administration will ensure that justice is served without discrimination in the recent case in which a young woman was found on the rooftop of a building in Male'.
In an interview with State Broadcaster PSM before his official trip to Malaysia, President Muizzu said that his administration has always prioritized justice.
The President said discriminating against citizens and being brutal against citizens go against his principles, and that his administration has never and will never show these traits.
Touching on the tragic incident that has recently unfolded, President Muizzu insisted that his intention has always been to uncover the details of the event that led to the woman's fall and to ensure justice is served.
The President said despite allegations against his administration, he will not work to cover up for anyone who had committed a crime. President Muizzu noted that there are growing concerns especially among the youth of the country over the implementation of justice and that he accepted that these were genuine concerns.
The President insisted that he wanted to listen to the concerns of the protesters who began their demonstrations for a valid reason.
President Muizzu further said that he has established a Presidential Commission to conduct an inquiry into the events of 18th April and expressed his confidence that the Commission will perform well. He said that he has given the Commission powers and authorities that would remove any hurdles that would hinder the investigation and any attempts to hide evidence relating to the incident.
Events leading to the fall of the woman and the ensuing police investigation have come under public scrutiny after the Police initially ruled the incident as an accident.
The disinformation has made youngsters take to the streets demanding transparency and objectivity from the government and the Police force when investigating the fall of the young woman.
Protests, which began last Wednesday, have continued for 4 straight days, and amid the demands Commissioner of Police, Ali Shujua, resigned from his post last night.
