President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that all individuals registered with the Maldives Hajj Corporation can undertake the pilgrimage for this year’s Hajj.

He announced in a post shared on his official account on the social media platform X. With this declaration, the waiting list for attending Hajj has been effectively cleared.

Amendments to the regulations governing Maldivians attending the Hajj pilgrimage under the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited were introduced in January.

Under these new amendments, priority will be given to individuals undertaking Hajj for the first time, as well as those over the age of 65 who have yet to perform the pilgrimage.

The amendments also allow for the inclusion of a caretaker for individuals over the age of 75, taking their health status into account.

In such cases, preference will be given to a family member of the selected individual. Additionally, those who have previously performed Hajj will only be eligible to do so under the Corporation’s arrangements after five years.

The Government has been engaged in discussions with Saudi authorities to secure an increase in the quota allocated to the Maldives, to reduce waiting times, enhance the quality of service, and boost public confidence in the services provided by the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
