Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says leaders of the former government remained free because the police force remained free from political influence and if it was influenced, they would now be jailed.

Responding to a no-confidence motion against him by the opposition MDP, Ihsan said the previous government officials were free because he did not exert political influence on the police.

Minister Ihusan said that police were investigating former officials and that there was no political pressure on the police work.

He further said that if the government was exerting pressure on the Police, several high-profile cases would not be investigated including the Binveriya Scheme, the FSM oil theft case, contraband smuggling into jails as well as the case of the corrections officers arrested in connection with the money transactions.
