Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu says schools across the country need more than 230 primary teachers and more than 600 special educational needs SEN teachers.
The Minister said this while addressing a panel discussion held last night.
Shafiu said schools in the Maldives still need a large number of teachers to teach children with special needs and more than 600 teachers are currently needed.
Noting that more than 230 primary teachers are already needed, Shafiu said he hoped to bring about a positive change in the sector with the President's special advice.
The Minister indicated that more young people needed to enter the field of teaching.
More than 100 students have participated in the national teacher training program, he said, adding that an adequately educated young teaching force will be built within the next 10 years.
Shafeeu said he is working on developing a new system that will allow parents to view their students' information in real-time. The project is being implemented at MVR 45 million.
