An elderly woman who was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road in Laamu Atoll, Kahdhoo, has succumbed to her injuries.
Police reported that four people were injured when the motorcycle crashed into two women who were using the zebra crossing to go to the other side of the road near Kahdhoo airport.
Police reported that they included the two pedestrians as well as the man driving the motorcycle and his female passenger.
They further said that the 64-year-old woman who was hit by the vehicle passed away while being treated at the hospital. Police added that the other three injured in the accident were also seeking treatment, but stopped short of giving any information about their injuries.
The new fatality in Laamu Atoll comes amid an alarming trend of fatal accidents being reported across the country.
A 16-year-old lost his life in a cycle accident reported from the Southern City of Fuvahmulah earlier this month, while a 17-year-old died on the spot when his motorcycle struck a pedestrian in Male' last month.
