The Parliament has approved the appointment of two individuals to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

At a session outside of its term, the Parliament voted to appoint Aminath Saraahath and former MP Mohamed Abdullah (Muhamma) to the commission.

68 MPS participated in the vote to appoint Saraahath to the Commission, and all the MPs who took part in the vote sided with her. For Mohamed Abdullah, 60 MPs took part in the vote and 58 MPs voted in his favour while 2 others voted against him.

The Parliament also voted to appoint former TV Presenter Shifaza Musthafa to the Commission who failed to garner enough votes as only 11 MPs voted in her favour and 50 voted against him.

The Parliament chair for the session announced that Saraahath and the former MP have been now appointed to the Commission.

Two members were appointed to the Broadcasting Commission because the terms of current President Mariyam Waheeda and member Ali Yoosuf expired.
