Managing Director of State Electric Company Hussain Fahmy says two high voltage (HV) transformers installed in Hulhumale Phase 2 have been deliberately vandalized.
Fahmy said that despite being protected by boundary walls and double-locked enclosures, the perpetrators breached the gates, damaged the locks, and tampered with the HV system.
The Managing Director shared key observations about the attack on the transformers. He said that the methodical disengagement of HV switches indicates that the individuals involved possess technical knowledge of transformer systems and operations.
He said such interference with critical infrastructure poses grave risks, including electrocution, serious injury, or even fatalities—not only to the perpetrators but also to the surrounding community.
Fahmy further said that the tragic deaths caused by transformer vandalism last year serve as a painful reminder of the severe consequences of such acts.
He noted that this incident highlights the urgent need for increased public awareness and preventative measures to protect lives and ensure the safety of critical infrastructure.
Fahmy added that investigations are underway, and measures are being implemented to prevent future occurrences.
