The state has filed an appeal at the High Court against the injunction issued by the Criminal Court to release local nurse Haleemath Lamha, who was arrested concerning the murder of a Filipino woman named Mary, on bail.

The State Prosecutor General's Office filed the appeal last Thursday.

Lamha was arrested on December 16, 2021, on charges of killing Mary. She was released on conditional release on November 23, 2023. However, the prosecution appealed the case to the High Court and she was remanded in custody.

In the latest development of the case, the Criminal Court has once again decided to release the suspect on bail after a request was made by her defense due to the prolonged trial.

Lamha was released on bail on condition that she not leave the country, appear in court on time whenever the court directs and not leave her home except for an emergency. She was released for three months.

Lamha was charged with accessory to murder along with two other charges for the death of Mary who worked at Indira Gandhi Memorial along with the two suspects in her murder.

Mary's husband, Marvin was charged with murder after he was arrested in October of 2021. Lamha was arrested in December of the same year.
