President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ambassadors from the Maldives to India and Saudi Arabia.

The President today appointed Aishath Azeema as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Republic of India, and Ahmed Sareer as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Both Ambassadors received the backing of the parliament after their names were recommended for the posts.

Azima served as the Chinese ambassador from August 2019 to September last year. She is currently working in India, as Head of the India Desk.

The government proposed Azima's name as the term of the current Ambassador Ibrahim Shaheeb expires.

Meanwhile, Sareer was the country's former foreign secretary. He was appointed to the role in 2017.

Before that he was the country's permanent representative to the UN.
