The government has signed a feasibility contract with China to construct the 100-bed hospital in Villimale'.

The memorandum of feasibility findings was signed by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin.

The ceremony was joined by the Chief Executive Officer of Dharumvantha Hospital, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, Senior Officials of the Ministry, Chinese Embassy, and Male' City Group of Hospitals.

The Ministry said the feasibility study would establish the basis for moving to the next stage (design stage) of the project.

Back in March, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that work on the tertiary hospital would begin soon.

The government is expected to build the tertiary hospital on the same land plot where the current hospital stands. Reports emerged earlier this month that the hospital would be shifted to the Children's Orphanage building in Villimale'.

But IGMH, which oversees Villmale Hospital, denied such reports.
