Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah departed for Geneva, Switzerland last night.
The Speaker is traveling to Geneva to participate in the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union IPU.
The Assembly is set to begin today and will go on till the 17th of this month. The Parliament said 5 MPs would accompany the Speaker on his trip to Geneva.
They include MP for Maafannu Central Constituency Asma Rasheed, MP for Hulhudhoo Constituency Mohamed Shahid, MP for Villimale Constituency Mohamed Ismail, MP for Fuvamulah Central Constituency Ali Fazaadh, and MP for Kanditheem Constituency Ameen Faisal.
All IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs, will meet on this occasion.
The General Debate will focus on the overall theme of Harnessing science, technology, and innovation (STI) for a more peaceful and sustainable future and provide a platform for delegates to deliberate, exchange views, and galvanize parliamentary action.
