President of the main opposition party MDP Abdullah Shahid says his party ensured that the people of Maldives benefited from decentralization.

In a post on X, the former Foreign Minister said he was headed to MDP's Councillor's Conference in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi.

Shahid said that his party introduced modern decentralization to the country. He also said that the party ensured the people benefited from the decentralization system.

The President of MDP added the conference will provide important discussions and exchange of ideas.

The Councillor's Conference is the biggest political event the party has been hosting since the Presidential elections last year. Councillors who represent MDP on the Councils of the islands from the Northern Atolls of Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani are taking part in the conference.

Over 80 participants are expected to take part in the conference including former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and other members of MDP's leadership.
