Immigration officials detained 28 foreigners who had been living illegally in the Maldives in its mass inspection held in Hulhumale' yesterday.

Immigration said in the mass inspection held between 04:00 pm and 06:00 pm, more than 200 immigration officers joined the operation along with officials from other agencies including Maldives Police Services, Ministry of Economic Development, as well as Health Protection Agency and Maldives Food and Drug Authority.

Immigration during the mass inspection Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of Hulhumale were searched. It said that 314 establishments were searched and 769 foreigners were questioned.

Immigration further said that 28 foreigners were detained in the inspection they include undocumented migrant workers and workers who have been reported by their employers.

It also said that 165 foreigners were given notices because their Immigration documents were incomplete and that they had been summoned to the Immigration office.

Immigration stated that 92 locals were advised against illegally employing undocumented foreigners.
