Immigration says it has arrested more than 5 migrants after a raid on houses and hotels where foreigners were living in crowded places.
It said that the raid was conducted on the 16th of this month as part of the operation to search accommodation blocks where foreigners are living in crowded places often in manners threatening public safety and security.
Immigration detailed that 2 houses and 2 hotels were searched as part of the operation. They further said 7 foreigners who were living illegally at these places were taken under the custody of Immigration officials.
The new operation from Immigration is another addition to its ongoing operations against undocumented expatriates living and working in the Greater Male' area.
Immigration along with the Police and Male' City Council are also targeting migrant businesses including takeaway shops and small coffee shops.
Authorities are also inspecting places where foreigners are known to make food items to sell to their community and locals. Some of the places that have been raided showed highly unhygienic conditions.
