Police have arrested a local man for stealing from a Bangladeshi national by impersonating an immigration officer.

Police said that a case was reported to them in which three individuals posing as Immigration Officials entered an apartment where migrants lived and stole a mobile phone and MVR 9,000 in cash.

They said the case was reported yesterday. Police further said they arrested 44-year-old Mohamed Naveen from Galolhu Beruge for allegedly stealing from the migrants.

They noted the suspect was arrested under a court order.

Police are investigating the case.

The incident emerged as Immigration continued to conduct its raids across the Greater Male' Area to shut down illegal migrant businesses as well as sought out migrants living in conditions that are dangers to themselves and the safety of the public around them.
