Maldives National Defence Force MNDF says its Fire and Rescue services have extinguished a fire that started in a workshop on the industrial island of Thilafushi earlier today.

MNDF said that the report of the fire came in around 08:36 in the morning and firefighters from the Male' area command and the Thilafushi fire station.

It said that the first was stopped from further spreading around 09:46 in the morning and that the fire was fully extinguished around 11:04 in the morning.

MNDF further said that the workshop named Marinedo was heavily damaged and the nearby warehouses were also damaged in the fire.

It also said that one individual was treated for injuries sustained in the fire at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and that the person has now been released.

Authorities are yet to disclose why the fire broke out but the incident happened with many inside the workshop. Fortunately, all those inside the workshop were able to get out in time.
