Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says authorities would find those who allow illegal vehicle registrations and that the officials would take strict legal action against them.
He made these remarks while speaking at the ceremony to launch 'the "Malé Fahi" Programme'.
Minister Ihusan said that the Maldives have always been plagued by a tradition of not abiding by the law. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ordered government agencies to break this tradition.
He said that the relevant authorities are now working on measures to break such traditions in the country.
The Minister noted that under the new Police Strategic Plan, Male' Traffic Police services have been re-established and that this would resolve the traffic issue in the capital.
Assuring that he would implement the changes to the law to implement the Male' Fahi program, Ihsan said he would take strict action against those who register illegal vehicles outside the portal used for registration by the Transport Ministry.
Ihsan said the government will also stop illegally parked vehicles, driving with fake number plates, and modifying bicycle silencers to make noise.
Ihsan also said that with the special permission of the President, vehicles parked on the street corners, near schools, near hospitals and at the entrances to mosques have been towed.
