Authorities in the Maldives have released State Minister at the Environment Ministry Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem after she was arrested for allegedly doing black magic against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his wife.
Police confirmed that she was released along with her younger sister Hawwa Sana Saleem who was also arrested in the same case. Police said they were released as there was no reason to extend their remand custody.
They added that police would continue to investigate the case.
The State Minister and her sister as well as a male suspect were arrested on the 23rd of last month. The male suspect was released on the 1st of this month while the two sisters were detained for two more weeks.
Shamnaz, the former wife of the Minister at the President's Office Adam Rameez, was suspended from her post at the Ministry following her arrest.
Rameez too has been suspended by the President's Office, though no reson for his suspension has been given.
