ADK Hospital says former national football team midfielder Mohamed Arif (Bakaa) remains in serious condition as he is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

Arif who returned to the Maldives after performing Hajj rituals a few days back was admitted to the hospital for having a fever and then breathing difficulties.

The hospital confirmed that he was shifted to the ICU yesterday as his condition did not improve. A media official at the hospital confirms that the former footballer remains in the ICU and that he is still in serious condition.

The hospital did not give any more details but local reports said that he is currently on the ventilator.

The former footballer performed Hajj rituals as a special guest of the Saudi King.

Arif, known for his ball-winning abilities in the heart of the Maldivian midfield, played a pivotal role when the country lifted its first regional trophy back in 2008.

He also played a key part when the country won the SAFF Championship again in 2018. His last club appearance came for United Victory of the first division in the Maldivian league.
