The 18-year-old man who was injured in an electrocution incident in Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru last month has succumbed to his injuries.

The 18-year-old was injured when he tried to save two children who were electrocuted by a street lamp near the children's park on the island. In the incident that happened on the 23rd of last month, a 12-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were injured along with the man.

All three were rushed to Raa Atoll Regional Hospital in Ungoofaaru and the children were released on the same day.

However, the 18-year-old was taken to the ICU of the hospital as his injuries were severe and later transferred to Male' on the 26th of last month for further treatment.

The man was reported to have been on a ventilator as his condition did not improve as per various media reports. His funeral prayers have been scheduled after Magrib's prayers this evening.

It has been a tragic month for the island of Ungoofaaru as this is the second tragic death the island has seen this month. Earlier, Corporal Mohamed Zaidhaan from Ungoofaaru succumbed to his injuries after a shark attacked him off the island of Laamu Kadhoo where he was undertaking an MNDF training exercise in the sea.

A state funeral was held for the fallen soldier in the island of Ungoofaaru.

The 18-year-old died today while under treatment and this was confirmed by the President of Ungoofaaru Island Council Abdullah Rasheed.
