Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says the government's goals for security and policing can only be achieved if police officers work hard to avoid taking bribes.

The Minister made the remarks while addressing the graduates of the 36th Police Initial Training Course in a ceremony held in Addu City last night.

In his remarks, the Minister outlined three priority targets for the police force during its work to maintain security in the country. The Minister said that this includes eradicating drug abuse and peddling in the Maldives as well as halting gang-related crimes, and resolving the issue of undocumented migrant workers in the country.

The Minister requested the graduates to work together with their superiors to achieve these goals.

He further said that during their work, Police Officers are bound to face bribes and threats both from inside their organization and outside but that they need to remain steadfast in their work.

He also called on every newly recruited officer to work hard to achieve the government's efforts to reduce crime and establish a safe environment. The Minister assured that he would provide all necessary assistance in this regard.
