President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says it is unacceptable to give amnesty to those convicted of molesting and abusing Children.

He said this in a post on X.

The President said it was unacceptable to pardon and release those arrested or convicted of child sexual abuse.

He said the government is asking the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to appeal the decisions immediately. The President urged everyone to work together to free society from the divisions of such evil elements.

Though the President did not gesture at any specific case in his remarks, his comments followed the release of a 69-year-old grandfather, who was arrested in August last year for allegedly molesting his 13-year-old daughter, was released on conditions by Veymandoo Magistrate Court.

The suspect was released while his trial for the molestation case was being tried in court. But the PGO has confirmed to some media outlets that it would be appealing his release tomorrow.
