President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says all staple food items will be sold at lower prices by the State Trading Organization STO when the holy month of Ramadan begins.
He said this while answering a question from a member of the public who asked the President about food prices, especially during the month of Ramadan. Since the beginning of last month, the President has been answering video questions from regular citizens daily.
In response, President Muizzu said that lowering the prices of food items is one of the key priorities for the administration and that it is working to prevent price hikes by importing and selling all essential food items via STO.
The President said that the company has already begun to sell food items at lower prices and that more would be done to reduce the prices of food.
President Muizzu said that his mid-term and long-term plan for the issue was to help sell all the products that can be made in the Maldives and ultimately secure food security.
He added that this would ensure that the prices of food do not hike.
