The government has denied reports that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his family had set up a costly karaoke system in the official residence, Muliaage.

This denial came after the online newspaper 'Dhiyavaru' reported that the expensive setup worth thousands of taxpayers' dollars was allegedly bought upon an order by First Lady Saajidhaa Mohamed. It was also reported that a famous businessman had also spent on it.

While the paper shared a photo of the supposed setup, it has since been proven that the photo is fake.

Speaking about the matter, Minister at the President’s Office for Strategic Communications Ibrahim Khaleel said that reports suggesting that such an expensive setup has been made at the official residence of the President and his family is false and that the President and his family do not engage in such activities.

Khaleel said that those behind such rumors are also those who have misused state funds when given the chance and desperately trying to hide their acts.

He further said circulating fake photos and making these allegations were acts to turn the focus of the public away from their crimes.

'Dhiyavaru' news has previously published fake news about the President and the government and the media council has warned that it would take action against it for publishing false news.
