President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says air ambulance services will begin tomorrow in the Maldives.

He announced this while speaking to the residents of Noonu Manadhoo island. President Muizzu said that the services would start with Dash 8 planes and seaplanes and that these planes have now been fitted to allow patient transport.

The President emphasized that this was the beginning of the journey for the Maldives to gain control in this field.

President Muizzu said that using a Dash-8 aircraft for this service meant that it could land on any island with an airport to transport patients. He detailed that the aircraft can travel to neighboring Sri Lanka and then to other destinations after that.

He also said that using seaplanes to transport patients meant that they could land on islands that did not have airport access.

The President further said that next month the Maldives would begin its surveillance of its Special Economic Zone. He said that this was against harnessing Maldivian capabilities and giving the country freedom in the true sense of the word.
