President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he won't arrest or punish individuals, on political grounds and will follow through on his pledge of resisting the urge for revenge.

In his first presidential statement in Parliament after taking office, the President outlined his government's policies to resolve the country's major problems, and social and political issues and to maintain Maldives's economy and sovereignty.

The President said that although he promised not to arrest anyone for political reasons, peace must be held in the country. He said that he would fulfill his duty as the head of state to guarantee justice and fairness in the state.

President Muizzu also said that the government would not interfere with the judiciary. The President said that he can state without confidence that that the judiciary has been functioning without any interference from the government since November 17, 2023.

He added that if he discovers that any government official is exerting such influence on the judiciary, he would take immediate action.
