The voting in the primary of the ruling PPM/PNC coalition ahead of the Parliamentary election began today across the country with scuffles reported at some ballot boxes placed in Male'.

The progressive coalition has said that it had placed 227 ballot boxes across the country with the primary held for 73 constituencies.

The Coalition said that 283 candidates are contesting for the 73 slots and that 71,597 people are eligible to vote in the primary.

Voting began at 10:00 am today and will continue till 05:00 pm. '

Reports have said that there have been scuffles and minor unrest at some ballot boxes including the ones kept in Kalaafaanu School in Male' and Henveiru Football Stadium.

Some argue that their names which were included in the initial voters list have been omitted from the final voters list. But the coalition is yet to comment on the unrest near its ballot boxes.
