Chairperson of PNC and Chief Advisor to the President Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) says while MDP and the Democrats have agreed to work together to bring amendments to laws in a bid to halt the government, they won't succeed in such an endeavor.

Addressing a news conference today, Adhurey said that the opposition is determined to bring the government to a standstill. He pointed out that this government was brought to power with the support of the majority of the voting population and that it was the people who decided that the MDP did not know how to govern.

He went on to say that he won't support the actions aimed at 'tying the hands' of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He said that even if the parliament sets a limit on political appointees, the President can make the appointments under the powers vested to him under the Constitution.

Adhurey questioned why the Parliament did not move to limit the political appointees during the MDP regime. He also pointed out that the opposition did not first propose to limit the parliament seats and that the idea was first proposed by PPM/PNC.

Yesterday, MDP and the Democrats agreed to work together on several issues as well as to hold the current administration accountable for its actions.

In a joint press, the parties said that the issues that they are looking to work together include limiting the size of the parliament stating that while the current parliament has 87 seats, the next would have 93.

They said that the parties believe there is a need to review the projected and unlimited growth in the number of MPs and parliamentary constituencies.

They also said that they are willing to commit to passing legislation on regulating the governance of State-owned Enterprises. The Parties also said that they would commit to legislation limiting the number of political appointees by the government.
