Former President Mohamed Nasheed has once again spoken in defense of India stating that the Maldives should afford India respect at all times.

In a post on 'X', Nasheed, who is also the former Speaker of the Parliament, said that Maldivians have achieved self-rule for centuries because they are tactful and strategic.

Nasheed said that this was not achieved by brute strength. The former President warned that if the country's leaders lack foresight and go stomping about beating their chest, then Maldives will suffer.

Nasheed noted that India is our neighbor and friend and that the Maldives must afford India respect at all times.

His reference may be regarding the recent comments made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu upon his return from a state visit to China.

President Muizzu said that Maldives may be small but that does not give anyone the license to bully the Maldives. He gave his briefing in the local language Dhivehi but ended his press briefing with a sentence in English, seemingly aiming it at India
