The Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that the state will provide monthly financial assistance to families who temporarily foster children in the care of the state.
The opportunity is now open for those who wish to temporarily foster children in the care of the state. Those who wish to foster children should call 1433 and register.
To ensure that every child grows up in a family, families who wish to look after children currently in state custody will be given the opportunity. The ministry said the government will provide a monthly allowance of MVR 5,000 to families who foster children.
Along with an assessment of families who wish to foster children, the ministry has decided to conduct a training and will temporarily hand over the children for a period of two years. The family can also extend the period and make it permanent if they wish and even after the children are handed over to the families, the ministry will continue to monitor their situation.
The rules on reintegration of children in state custody were amended last year to allow for the transfer of custody of children through the courts.
