Ballot counting of the Male' City By-election held today is currently underway with MDP Mayor Candidate Adam Azim taking the lead so far.

Voting for the by-election to elect three councilors for Male' City Council and also to fill the Mayor's seat of Male' City was held today along with the by-election for the seat on the WDC of Meemu Mulak.

Voting was held from 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. today across the Male' City with over 56,000 eligible voters.

The Elections Commission said that all the ballot boxes have now been closed and that ballot counting was now underway. The Commission had said that voter turnout is expected to be around 30 percent. Back in 2020, around 40 percent of the eligible voters came out to cast their votes in the local council election.

Preliminary results show that MDP Mayor Candidate Azim is enjoying a commanding lead with over 46 percent of the counted votes. Ruling PNC/PPM candidate Aishath Azima Shakoor is in second place with around 20 percent of the votes.
